The MEMO 2011 will be held in Varaždin, a town in the northern part of Croatia, 81 km north of the capital Zagreb. All the participants will stay in a student's dormitory which is located at only 2-3 minutes walk from the Railway Station.
The address is: Studentski dom, J. Merlića bb, Varaždin.

The teams are expected to arrive on afternoon, September 1, at one of the following locations:
  • Varaždin Railway station (by train)
  • Varaždin Bus station (by bus)
where our volunteers will be waiting for you.

If you arrive via Zagreb, a volunteer can help you during your transfer.

How to reach (and leave) Varaždin?

You can reach Varaždin via Koprivnica (a city on the north-east of Varaždin, located on a frequent railway line) or via Zagreb. The organisers will meet the participants on the Railway station or Bus station.

  1. Via Koprivnica

You can arrive by train in Koprivnica and then take a train from Koprivnica to Varaždin

The price of the return ticket Koprivnica-Varaždin-Koprivnica is approximately 7 € per personPrices could be different
    in September, but they
    are expected to be the
    same or similar.
    .

  2. Via Zagreb

You can arrive in Zagreb by train or by plane. You have two possibilities to continue your travel:

    1. take a train from Zagreb to Varaždin

    2. take a bus from Zagreb to Varaždin

The timetable for buses from Varaždin to Zagreb

Your decision on means of transport may depend on the way you will arrive in Zagreb (and leave Zagreb):

  1. If you arrive by plane, you must take a bus from the airport to the bus station. The buses from the airport leave every 30 minutes, the duration of the transfer is approximately 25 minutes, and the cost of the ticket is approximately 4,5 €Prices could be different
    in September, but they
    are expected to be the
    same or similar.
. In this case, you will arrive in Varaždin faster and easier if you choose to go by bus.
  2. In case you arrive in Zagreb by train, it would perhaps be easier to continue the trip by train. Still, if you need to transfer between bus station (Autobusni kolodvor) and railway station (Glavni kolodvor) this will take about 20 minutes. Take the tram number 2 or 6 in the right direction and get off the tram on the third station.

In each case, we can offer you assistance during your transfer in Zagreb.

Some other reasons in favour of transport by train:
  • it is slightly cheaper - the return ticket costs approximately 14 €, compared to approximately 17 € (plus 1 € for each piece of luggage) for the return bus ticketPrices could be different
    in September, but they
    are expected to be the
    same or similar.
; also, keep in mind that when you buy a return ticket (for a lower price than two one-way tickets) you must take the same bus carrier in both directions,
  • the railway station in Varaždin is a 2-3 minutes walking distance from the accommodation site (Student's Dormitory).

Some other reasons in favour of transport by bus:
  • duration of the trip is a bit shorter (see the timetables),
  • the bus lines are slightly more frequent (see the timetables).
